PORT HURON, MI – In observance of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Port Huron Hospital’s Women’s Wellness Place will be holding its 9th Annual Breast Cancer Survivor Luncheon, Saturday, October 20, from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at the Black River Country Club, 3300 Country Club Drive, Port Huron.
The luncheon is for breast cancer survivors and their guests. The program’s keynote speaker is Tami Boehmer, a breast cancer survivor and author of From Incurable to Incredible: Cancer Survivors Who Beat the Odds. Boehmer will share her story and common attributes all cancer survivors share. Guests will learn how she inspired herself to transform her life, and participants will take away tips to supercharge their body, mind and spirit.
At age 46, Tami Boehmer’s doctor informed her of the news she always feared – a recurrence of breast cancer that was terminal. Looking for hope and inspiration, she sought other survivors who’d beaten the odds to determine what set them apart. So begun her journey of seeking out “miracle survivors” who had beat the odds of a terminal breast cancer diagnosis. She compiled these stories into her book From Incurable to Incredible: Cancer Survivors Who Beat the Odds.
“As I wrote I started noticing common attributes all the people shared that contributed to their survival,” Boehmer says. “With each story, I saw similarities to my situation. I became more confident that if they could overcome insurmountable challenges, others could, too.”
The cost of the event is $15 and will include lunch, door prizes and a vendor area to visit. Registration is required. For additional information, call Port Huron Hospital HealthAccess at 1.800.228.1484 or visit www.porthuronhospital.org/breasthealth.
