Preparing for your Surgery

  1. Smoking and Tobacco Cessation
  2. Why can't I have anything to eat or drink after midnight the night before surgery?
  3. What about my medications?General information is listed below. Your admission access nurse will direct you on what medications to take before your procedure.
  4. What if I feel ill before my procedure?
    • If you wake up ill the morning of your procedure, please call the Port Huron Hospital Preop area at (810) 989-3280 or (810) 989-3281, please leave voice message if there is no answer.
    • Notify your surgeon if you develop any of the following:
      • Fever
      • Sore throat
      • Nausea or vomiting
      • Diarrhea
      • Cough or congestion
      • Chicken Pox exposure/illness within two weeks of surgery
      • Any other problems that may interfere with your scheduled surgery
