The inpatient Mental Health Unit provides intensive, structured treatment to voluntary and involuntary adult, geriatric, and medical patients with a mental illness diagnosis, aged 18 and older.
Every patient admitted to the inpatient unit is a “person requiring treatment” as defined in section 401 of the Michigan Mental Health Code. This definition includes the patient being either a danger to self, a danger to others, or unable to provide for self care.
The Mental Health Unit has a multidisciplinary team of caregivers which consists of nurses, social workers, occupational and recreational therapists, mental health technicians, and is led by a psychiatrist. All patients are also seen by an internal medicine physician for any necessary medical treatment or testing.
