What do RN’s do?
- Determine nursing and health needs of patients
- Carry out prescribed medical and nursing treatments
- Teach and counsel patients and their families
- Observe and report the condition of patients and modify the plan of care if necessary
- Direct and supervise less skilled nursing and other health personnel
- Registered Nurses can work in the following areas in a hospital:
- Intensive Care Units
- Cardiac Care Units
- Cardiac Cath Labs
- Telemetry Units
- Medical Surgical Units
- Emergency Centers
- OR Rooms
Education
- An Associate Degree (two years of study beyond high school)
- Bachelor's Degree (four years of study beyond high school)
- Master's Degree (five to six years of study beyond high school)
- Pass a licensing exam to become registered in your state
Salary
- $48,000 per year and up
- Will vary by geographic location, practice setting, size of institution, educational level, experience and position
