What do RN’s do?

• Determine nursing and health needs of patients
• Carry out prescribed medical and nursing treatments
• Teach and counsel patients and their families
• Observe and report the condition of patients and modify the plan of care if necessary
• Direct and supervise less skilled nursing and other health personnel
• Registered Nurses can work in the following areas in a hospital:
  • Intensive Care Units
  • Cardiac Care Units
  • Cardiac Cath Labs
  • Telemetry Units
  • Medical Surgical Units
  • Emergency Centers
  • OR Rooms

Education

• An Associate Degree (two years of study beyond high school)
• Bachelor's Degree (four years of study beyond high school)
• Master's Degree (five to six years of study beyond high school)
• Pass a licensing exam to become registered in your state

Salary

• $48,000 per year and up
• Will vary by geographic location, practice setting, size of institution, educational level, experience and position
