Gary LeRoy, Vice President of Administration and Planning

 

Over the more than 26 years that Gary has been on the executive staff, one thing has remained a constant amid industry challenges and organizational changes: it's the people who embody the culture of Port Huron Hospital. "Our culture is a definite strength and provides us with an atmosphere to weather whatever challenges we face. There is a spirit of 'ownership' among all levels of staff and volunteers here," says Gary.

In his role as Vice President of Administration and Planning, he is in a position to oversee critical business and support functions which underpins Hospital operations- providing quality care and services to patients and the community. In his current role, Gary leads strategic planning, compliance, insurance, risk management, contracting, legal liaison, advocacy, governance and other support functions. He also acts as coordinator for standing, twice-weekly Executive Team meetings. In terms of style and emphasis, he strives to create an environment that allows the "experts"—our staff—to be the best they can be.

"To remain an independent and a locally controlled hospital, requires an extra amount of diligence and self reliance. We have no "corporate office" to advise us or back up our decision. Each member of our team—trustees, physicians, nurses, technicians, billers, maintenance workers, managers - need to be excellent performing their roles and do their jobs with compassion and integrity. This is not been easy and actually necessitates that culture of 'ownership'. We have a rich heritage; continuing and growing it, will be our legacy."

Gary fondly embraces a slogan Don Fletcher (CEO from 1988-2003) used to use…"We care deeply, work hard, and have fun doing it". Gary says, "For me, that kind of sums it up."
