Like many of you, I’ve been wondering when spring will arrive in the Blue Water area. One thing I’m sure about, once warmer weather is here, we’re going to see more people enjoying our county’s great bike paths and parks. I’m sure I speak for everyone at Port Huron Hospital when I say that I hope every one of these bike riders wears a helmet. Data shows that bike helmets are 85 to 88 percent effective in reducing head and brain injuries. That’s why the Port Huron Hospital Foundation partners with other area organizations to promote and educate about the use of helmets when participating in wheeled sports, particularly bike riding. This annual initiative is an excellent example of many organizations partnering to improve health in the community.
Another important partnership improving quality of life in the community is one shared by Port Huron Hospital’s employees. Since 1999, members of the Employees That Care (ETC) donor club have donated more than $500,000 to assist fellow employees and to make improvements in the hospital. I’m very proud of these employees who continuously live our values of compassion, integrity and excellence.
