Wingford was the fantasy creation of Emory L. Ford, grandson of the founder of Pittsburgh Plate Glass and Wyandotte Chemical Companies. Completed in 1931 on 5,000 acres in Beard’s Hills, Wingford was the ultimate pheasant hunting preserve for Mr. Ford and his guests. The name “Wingford” is derived from Wing “shooting” and Ford “ownership”.
